History

The area that is now Savoy was first settled in the early 1830s by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The settlement was originally known as West Urbana, but was later renamed Savoy in 1855 after the Savoy Hotel in London, England. The village was officially incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Savoy was a major stop on the Illinois Central Railroad, and the village grew rapidly. The railroad brought many new businesses to the area, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a lumber yard. The village also became a popular destination for tourists, who came to enjoy the area's natural beauty.
