Ringwood Summary

History

The small village of Ringwood, Illinois is located in McHenry County, approximately 50 miles northwest of Chicago. The area was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of German immigrants who were looking for a place to call home. The village was officially incorporated in 1872 and was named after the Ringwood Manor in England.
The village of Ringwood was originally a farming community, with many of the early settlers growing corn, wheat, and other crops. As the years passed, the village began to grow and develop. In the late 1800s, the village was home to a number of businesses, including a blacksmith, a general store, and a post office.
In the early 1900s, the village began to expand and develop further. The first school was built in 1910, and the first library was established in 1912. The village also had a number of churches, including the First Congregational Church, which was founded in 1872.
In the 1920s, the village began to experience a period of growth and prosperity. The population increased from just over 500 in 1920 to nearly 1,000 by 1930. During this time, the village was home to a number of businesses, including a bank, a movie theater, and a number of stores.
In the 1950s, the village began to experience a period of decline. Many of the businesses closed, and the population began to decline. By the 1970s, the population had dropped to just over 500.
