Pearl City Summary
Pearl City is a small village located in Stephenson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Freeport Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Pearl City was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Pearl Creek, which runs through the area. The first post office was established in 1856.
In 1872, the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad built a line through Pearl City, connecting it to Freeport and Chicago. This allowed the village to become a major shipping center for the surrounding area.
In the late 19th century, Pearl City was a popular tourist destination. It was known for its mineral springs, which were believed to have healing properties. The village also had several hotels and resorts, as well as a casino.
Geography
Pearl City is located at 42°20'25" North, 89°37'45" West (42.340278, -89.629167). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all land.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females.
