Oreana Summary

History

The small town of Oreana, Illinois is located in Macon County, about 10 miles south of Decatur. The town was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio, led by William and Mary Ann (Henderson) Ore. The town was originally called Oreville, but the name was changed to Oreana in 1856.
The town was a farming community for many years, with the main crops being corn, wheat, and oats. In the late 1800s, the town began to grow and develop, with the construction of a railroad line and the opening of a post office. The town also had a school, a church, and a few stores.
In the early 1900s, Oreana began to experience a period of growth and prosperity. The town was home to several businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The town also had a movie theater, a library, and a newspaper.
