Milford Summary

Milford, Illinois is a small village located in Iroquois County, Illinois. It is situated in the eastern part of the state, about 50 miles south of Chicago. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the larger Iroquois County area.

History

The area that is now Milford was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “New Milford” and was incorporated in 1854. The village was named after Milford, New York, the hometown of the settlers.
The village grew slowly over the years, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a post office.
