Martinton Summary

Martinton is a small village located in Iroquois County, Illinois. It is situated in the eastern part of the state, about 50 miles south of Chicago. The village has a population of approximately 500 people and is part of the larger Iroquois County area.

History

Martinton was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the Martinton family, who were among the first settlers. The village was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were corn, wheat, and oats. In the late 19th century, the village began to grow and develop, and by the early 20th century, it had become a thriving community.
In the early 1900s, the village was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a post office, and a bank. The village also had a school, a church, and a library. In the 1920s, the village was connected to the rest of the state by a railroad line, which allowed for increased trade and commerce.

Geography
