Maroa Summary

Maroa, Illinois is a small village located in Macon County, Illinois. It is situated about 10 miles south of Decatur and about 25 miles northeast of Springfield. The village has a population of 1,741 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Maroa was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Maroa, a Native American chief of the Kickapoo tribe. The village was incorporated in 1858 and was the first village in Macon County to be incorporated.
