Magnolia Summary

Magnolia, Illinois is a small village located in Putnam County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Little Vermilion River, and is part of the Ottawa-Streator Micropolitan Statistical Area. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

The area that is now Magnolia was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “New York Settlement”, and was later renamed Magnolia in 1837. The name was chosen in honor of the magnolia trees that grew in the area.
The village was officially incorporated in 1867, and the first mayor was elected in 1868. The village grew slowly over the years, and by the early 1900s, it had a population of around 500 people.
