Lyndon Summary

Lyndon, Illinois is a small village located in the northeastern corner of the state, in the county of Iroquois. It is situated on the Iroquois River, and is part of the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located about 30 miles south of Chicago.

History

The area that is now Lyndon was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “New York Settlement”, and was later renamed “Lyndon” in honor of the first settler, John Lyndon. The village was officially incorporated in 1872.
In the late 19th century, Lyndon was a thriving agricultural community, with a variety of crops being grown in the area. The village was also home to a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a sawmill.
