Lincolnshire is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,275 at the 2010 census. Lincolnshire is a northern suburb of Chicago and is located in the North Shore area.

Geography

Lincolnshire is located at 42°13'17" North, 87°53'17" West (42.2214, -87.8880). According to the 2010 census, Lincolnshire has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15.3 km2), of which 5.8 square miles (15.1 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.

History

Lincolnshire was first settled in the early 19th century by a group of settlers from New England. The village was originally known as Grandwood, but was renamed Lincolnshire in 1957. The village was incorporated in 1957 and has since grown to become one of the most affluent suburbs of Chicago.

Economy

Lincolnshire is home to several large corporations, including Baxter International, Aon Corporation, and Hewitt Associates. The village is also home to several smaller businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 7,275 people, 2,717 households, and 2,092 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,250.3 people per square mile (482.2/km2). There were 2,845 housing units at an average density of 489.2 per square mile (189.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 81.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 11.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
There were 2,717 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 30.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $118,945, and the median income for a family was $136,945. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $60,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $60,945.
