Leaf River Summary

Leaf River is a small village located in Ogle County, Illinois, United States. The population was 845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rockford, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Leaf River was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Leaf River Station" and was a stop on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. The village was officially incorporated in 1872.

Geography

Leaf River is located at 42°17'25" North, 89°17'25" West (42.290278, -89.290278). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all land.

Economy

Leaf River is a small rural community with a primarily agricultural economy. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
