History

Ladd was founded in 1854 by William Ladd, a settler from New York. The village was incorporated in 1872. The first post office was established in 1855.

Geography

Ladd is located at 41°17'25" North, 89°17'25" West (41.290278, -89.290278). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.02 square miles (2.64 km2), all land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,717 people, 690 households, and 463 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,717.0 people per square mile (662.2/km2). There were 730 housing units at an average density of 730.0 per square mile (281.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.90% White, 0.12% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.17% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
