History

La Harpe was founded in 1834 by French-Canadian fur trader, Jean Baptiste La Harpe. He was the first settler in the area and named the village after himself. La Harpe was originally part of the Sauk and Fox Indian Reservation, but the land was ceded to the United States in 1832. The village was officially incorporated in 1837.
