Homer Summary

Homer, Illinois is a small village located in Champaign County, Illinois. It is situated in the east-central part of the state, about 25 miles south of the city of Champaign. The village has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Homer was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after the Greek poet Homer, and the first post office was established in 1855. The village was incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Homer was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a canning factory. The village also had a railroad station, which connected it to the larger cities of Champaign and Urbana.
