Hennepin Summary

Hennepin is a small village located in Putnam County, Illinois, United States. The village is situated on the banks of the Vermilion River, approximately 25 miles south of Peoria. The population of Hennepin was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Hennepin was founded in 1837 by a group of French-Canadian settlers led by Joseph Hennepin, a Catholic priest. The village was named after Father Hennepin, who was a missionary to the Native Americans in the area. The village was incorporated in 1854.

Geography

Hennepin is located at 40°59'25" North, 89°17'45" West (40.990278, -89.295833). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all land.

Economy
