Godley, Illinois is a small village located in Will County, Illinois, United States. The village is situated in the northeastern part of the county, approximately 40 miles southwest of Chicago. As of the 2010 census, the population of Godley was 1,845.
History
Godley was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the Godley family, who were among the first settlers. The Godley family had previously lived in New York, but had moved to Illinois in search of better opportunities.
The first post office in Godley was established in 1855 The village was incorporated in 1872
Geography
Godley is located at 41°25'25"N 88°2'25"W (41.423, -88.040). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Godley is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat.
Godley is also home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 745 housing units at an average density of 621.7 per square mile (239.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
