German Valley Summary

German Valley, IL is a small village located in the northwest corner of Ogle County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Pecatonica River, about 25 miles west of Rockford. The village has a population of about 500 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.

History

The area that is now German Valley was first settled in the early 1830s by German immigrants. The village was originally known as “German Settlement” and was officially incorporated in 1867. The village was named after the German settlers who had come to the area.
The village was a farming community for many years, with the main crops being corn, wheat, and oats. In the late 19th century, the village began to grow and develop as a commercial center. The first store was opened in 1876, and the first post office was established in 1877.
In the early 20th century, the village was home to several businesses, including a blacksmith shop, a general store, a hotel, and a bank. The village also had a school, a church, and a library.

Geography

German Valley is located in the northwest corner of Ogle County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Pecatonica River, about 25 miles west of Rockford. The village has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land.
