Forrest Summary

Forrest, Illinois is a small village located in Livingston County, Illinois. It is situated in the central part of the state, approximately 80 miles southwest of Chicago. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is part of the Pontiac Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Forrest was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after the nearby Forrest Creek, which was named after the first settler in the area, John Forrest. The village was incorporated in 1858, and the first post office was established in 1859.
