History

The area that is now Elliott was first settled in the early 1800s by German immigrants. The village was originally known as “New Berlin” and was founded in 1837. The village was renamed “Elliott” in 1854 in honor of the first postmaster, William Elliott.
The village of Elliott was incorporated in 1872 and has remained a small, rural community ever since. The village has a rich history of farming and agriculture, and the local economy has been largely based on these industries for many years.
