Dalzell Summary

Dalzell is a small village located in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ottawa–Streator Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Dalzell was founded in 1854 by William Dalzell, a Scottish immigrant. He purchased the land from the government and began to build a small village. The village was originally called Dalzell's Grove, but the name was changed to Dalzell in 1858. The village was incorporated in 1872.
The village was a major stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, which ran through the village from 1854 to 1980. The railroad was a major source of employment for the village, and it also brought in many visitors.

Dalzell is located at 41°17'17" North, 89°2'17" West (41.288, -89.038). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all land.

The economy of Dalzell is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, which produce corn, soybeans, and other crops. The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
