Coffeen Summary

Coffeen is a small village located in Montgomery County, Illinois. It is situated in the central part of the state, about 25 miles northeast of Springfield. The village has a population of approximately 500 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.

History

Coffeen was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after the first settler, William Coffeen, who had purchased the land from the federal government. The village was incorporated in 1858 and was the first village in Montgomery County to be incorporated.
The village was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, the railroad came to town and the village began to grow. The railroad brought new businesses and industries to the area, including a flour mill, a sawmill, and a brickyard. The village also had a hotel, a bank, and several stores.

Geography

Coffeen is located in the central part of Illinois, about 25 miles northeast of Springfield. The village is situated in a rural area, surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village is located on the banks of the Sangamon River, which flows through the village.
