Clifton, Illinois is a small village located in Iroquois County, Illinois. It is situated in the eastern part of the state, about 50 miles south of Chicago. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the larger Iroquois County area.

History

Clifton was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Clifton, New York, the hometown of the settlers. The village was originally a farming community and the settlers built a grist mill and a sawmill to help support the local economy. The village grew slowly over the years and by the early 1900s, it had a population of around 500 people.
In the early 1900s, the village was home to a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a post office. The village also had a school and a church. In the 1920s, the village was connected to the outside world by the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad.
