Cisco Summary

Cisco, Illinois is a small village located in the eastern part of the state, in Moultrie County. It is situated along the Sangamon River, and is approximately 20 miles south of Decatur. History

Cisco was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after the Cisco family, who were among the first settlers. The village was incorporated in 1858, and the first post office was established in 1859.
In the late 19th century, Cisco was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, and a sawmill. The village also had a number of stores, including a general store, a drug store, and a hardware store.
In the early 20th century, the village began to decline. The railroad bypassed Cisco, and the population began to decline. By the 1950s, the village had become a virtual ghost town.
In the late 20th century, the village began to experience a resurgence. The population began to grow, and new businesses began to open. Today, Cisco is a small but vibrant community.
