Cherry Valley Summary

Cherry Valley is a village located in Winnebago County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,162 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rockford, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Cherry Valley was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Cherry Valley Station" due to its location on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1867.

Geography

Cherry Valley is located at 42°17'17" North, 89°2'17" West (42.288, -89.038). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

Cherry Valley is home to several businesses, including a manufacturing plant, a grocery store, a bank, and several restaurants. The village also has a post office and a library.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,068 people, 1,093 households, and 845 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,400.2 people per square mile (541.3/km2). There were 1,133 housing units at an average density of 517.2 per square mile (199.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% were non-families. 20.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.26.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
