Cabery Summary

Cabery is a small village located in Ford County, Illinois, United States. The population was 517 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kankakee–Bradley Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Cabery was founded in 1854 by William Cabery, a farmer from Ohio. He purchased the land from the government and began to build a small village. The village was originally called Caberyville, but the name was changed to Cabery in 1858.
The village grew slowly over the years, and by the early 1900s, it had a population of around 500 people. The village was home to a variety of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a post office.
In the early 1900s, the village was also home to a large coal mine. The mine was owned by the Cabery Coal Company, and it provided employment for many of the village’s residents. The mine closed in the 1950s, and the village’s population began to decline.

Geography

Cabery is located at 40°59′N 88°17′W (40.983, -88.283). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.
The village is located in the Kankakee River Valley, and it is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The Kankakee River flows through the village, and it is a popular spot for fishing and boating.

Economy

Cabery’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, and the surrounding area is used for growing corn, soybeans, and other crops.
The village also has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a restaurant, and a grocery store.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 517 people, 206 households, and 145 families living in the village. The population density was 845.7 people per square mile (326.2/km2). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 372.7 per square mile (144.1/km2).
