Byron Summary

Byron, Illinois is a small village located in Ogle County, Illinois, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Rock River, approximately 25 miles southwest of Rockford. The village has a population of approximately 3,000 people and covers an area of 1.3 square miles.

History

Byron was founded in 1835 by settlers from New York and New England. The village was named after Lord Byron, a famous English poet. The first settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of timber and the potential for farming. The village was incorporated in 1867 and the first post office was established in 1868.
Byron experienced a period of growth in the late 19th century, with the construction of a railroad line and the establishment of a number of businesses. The village was also home to a number of factories, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
