Burlington Summary

Burlington, Illinois is a small village located in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The village is situated on the Fox River, approximately 40 miles west of Chicago. As of the 2010 census, the population of Burlington was 2,117.

History

The area that is now Burlington was first settled in the early 1830s by settlers from New England. The village was originally known as “Fox River Station” and was a stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. The village was officially incorporated in 1867 and was named after Burlington, Vermont.

Geography

Burlington is located at 42°10'17" North, 88°20'45" West (42.1714, -88.3458). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of it land.

Economy

The economy of Burlington is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The village also has a small industrial park, which is home to several small manufacturing companies.
