Braceville Summary

Braceville, Illinois is a small village located in Grundy County, Illinois. It is situated in the northeastern part of the state, about 50 miles southwest of Chicago. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Coal City Community Unit School District.

History

Braceville was founded in 1854 by William Brace, a farmer from New York. He purchased land in the area and began to develop it into a small village. The village was named after him and was incorporated in 1867.
The village was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, coal mining became the main industry in the area. The coal mines provided employment for many of the residents and the village grew rapidly. By the early 20th century, Braceville had become a thriving coal mining town.

Geography

Braceville is located in the northeastern part of Grundy County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Kankakee River, about 50 miles southwest of Chicago. The village has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land.
The village is located in a rural area and is surrounded by farmland. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the area. The climate is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters.
