Bondville is a small village located in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The village is situated in the east-central part of the state, about 25 miles south of the city of Champaign. As of the 2010 census, the population of Bondville was 1,541.
History
The area that is now Bondville was first settled in the early 19th century by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The village was originally known as “Bond’s Grove” after the family that owned the land. In 1854, the village was officially incorporated as Bondville.
The village grew slowly over the years, and by the early 20th century, it had become a small farming community. In the 1950s, the village began to experience a period of growth as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign expanded and the village became a popular destination for students and faculty.
Geography
Bondville is located at 40°7′17″N 88°14′17″W (40.1214, -88.2379). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.
The village is located in the Mahomet River watershed, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village is located about 25 miles south of the city of Champaign, and about 40 miles west of the city of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Economy
The economy of Bondville is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, and the surrounding area is known for its production of corn, soybeans, and other crops.
In addition to agriculture, Bondville is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The village is also home to a branch of the University of Illinois Credit Union.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,541 people, 602 households, and 431 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,717.2 people per square mile (662.3/km2). There were 645 housing units at an average density of 717.2 per square mile (276.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 602 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,000, and the median income for a family was $51,250. Males had a median income of $37,500 versus $27,500 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,945.
