Berkeley is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is a suburb of Chicago, located approximately 25 miles west of the city. As of the 2010 census, the village had a population of 8,775.

History

Berkeley was first settled in 1835 by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as Germanville, but was later renamed after the English philosopher George Berkeley. The village was incorporated in 1924.

Berkeley is located at 41°51'25" North, 87°51'25" West (41.857, -87.857). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.3 square miles, all of it land.

Economy

Berkeley is home to several businesses, including a number of manufacturing companies. The village is also home to a number of retail stores, restaurants, and other services.
