Barry Summary

Barry is a small village located in Pike County, Illinois, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, approximately 20 miles south of Hannibal, Missouri. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census.

History

Barry was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town was named after William T. Barry, a prominent politician from Kentucky. The first post office was established in 1838.
In the late 19th century, Barry was a thriving river port, with a large number of steamboats and barges docking at the town's wharf. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a brickyard, and a number of stores.

Barry is located at 39°45'25" North, 90°45'25" West (39.756944, -90.756944). The village is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, approximately 20 miles south of Hannibal, Missouri.
