Antioch, Illinois is a village located in Lake County, Illinois, United States. The population was 14,430 at the 2010 census. It is a part of the Chicago metropolitan area.
History
The area that is now Antioch was first settled in the 1830s by settlers from New England. The village was originally known as Antioch Station, as it was a stop on the Chicago and Milwaukee Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1872.
Geography
Antioch is located at 42°25'25" North, 88°6'7" West (42.423607, -88.101845). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 8.9 square miles, of which 8.8 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.
Economy
The economy of Antioch is largely based on tourism and retail. The village is home to several restaurants, shops, and other businesses. The village also has a number of parks and recreational facilities.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 14,430 people, 5,541 households, and 3,845 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,637.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 92.2% White, 1.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.3% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
