Rio Blanco Summary

Rio Blanco is a municipality located in the northern region of Puerto Rico. It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Rio Blanco was 8,845.

History

Rio Blanco was founded in 1815 by Don Juan de la Cruz. The name of the town is derived from the nearby Rio Blanco river. The town was originally part of the municipality of San Juan, but was later annexed to the municipality of Toa Alta. In 1824, Rio Blanco was officially recognized as a municipality.

Geography

Rio Blanco is located in the northern region of Puerto Rico, in the northern part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is bordered by the municipalities of Toa Alta, Bayamón, and Naranjito. The town has a total area of 8.2 square miles, of which 8.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.

Economy

The economy of Rio Blanco is largely based on agriculture. The main crops grown in the area are coffee, plantains, and bananas. Other industries in the area include manufacturing, retail, and tourism.
