Woodbury, NJ is a city located in Gloucester County, New Jersey. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and is located approximately 25 miles southeast of Philadelphia. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 10,174.

History

Woodbury was first settled in 1683 by a group of Quakers from England. The town was originally known as Woodbury Creek, and was later renamed Woodbury in 1765. The town was officially incorporated in 1798.
In the 19th century, Woodbury was a major center for the production of glass and pottery. The city was home to several glass factories, including the Woodbury Glass Works, which was founded in 1817 and operated until 1876. The city was also home to the Woodbury Pottery Works, which was founded in 1845 and operated until 1891.

Geography

Woodbury is located at 39°51'N 75°7'W (39.85, -75.12). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2), all of which is land.
The city is located in the Delaware Valley, and is bordered by Deptford Township to the north, West Deptford Township to the east, Mantua Township to the south, and Westville to the west.

Woodbury is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several industrial and manufacturing companies, including the Woodbury Glass Works, which produces glass products for the automotive and construction industries.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 10,174 people, 4,093 households, and 2,541 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,400.3 people per square mile (1,700.2/km2). There were 4,521 housing units at an average density of 1,945.2 per square mile (750.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 13.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.2% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 4,093 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.2% were married couples living together, 16.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.2% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,945, and the median income for a family was $50,945. Males had a median income of $37,945 versus $30,945 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,945. About 8.2% of families and 10.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
