Marlton is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the southern part of Evesham Township in Burlington County, New Jersey. It is located approximately 25 miles east of Philadelphia and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 10,133.

History

Marlton was originally known as Evesham, and was part of the Lenape Native American territory. The area was settled by Europeans in the late 17th century, and the town was officially established in 1758. The town was named after the English village of Marlborough, which was the birthplace of one of the original settlers.
In the 19th century, Marlton was a rural farming community. The town was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a paper mill. The town also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.

Geography

Marlton is located at 39°53'N 74°51'W (39.88, -74.85). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11.2 km2), all of which is land.
The town is located in the southern part of Evesham Township, and is bordered by Medford to the north, Mount Laurel to the east, and Evesham Township to the south and west.

Economy

Marlton is a suburban community with a diverse economy. The town is home to several large employers, including Lockheed Martin, TD Bank, and Virtua Health. The town also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 10,133 people, 3,845 households, and 2,845 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,346.2 people per square mile (906.2/km2). There were 4,039 housing units at an average density of 941.2 per square mile (363.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 87.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 5.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
There were 3,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% were non-families. 21.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $76,945, and the median income for a family was $86,945. Males had a median income of $60,945 versus $41,945 for females.
