History

Millerburg was founded in 1824 by John Miller, a German immigrant. Miller had purchased the land from the United States government and named the village after himself. The village was incorporated in 1837.
Millerburg was an important stop on the Underground Railroad. The village was home to several abolitionists, including John Miller, who was a leader in the movement. The village was also home to several churches that provided shelter and assistance to runaway slaves.
