Creston Summary

Creston, Ohio is a small village located in Wayne County, Ohio. It is situated in the northeastern part of the state, approximately 30 miles south of Cleveland and 40 miles west of Akron. The village has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Creston was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as “Crestonville” and was named after the nearby creek. The village was incorporated in 1867 and was officially named “Creston”.
The village was a major stop on the Underground Railroad, with many of the local residents helping to hide and transport escaped slaves. The village was also home to a number of prominent abolitionists, including John Brown, who was a frequent visitor to the village.

Geography

Creston is located in the northeastern part of Wayne County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Chippewa Creek, which flows through the village. The village is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village is located approximately 30 miles south of Cleveland and 40 miles west of Akron.

Economy

Creston’s economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The village also has a number of small manufacturing companies, including a plastics factory and a metal fabrication plant.
