Wilmont Summary

Wilmont, Minnesota is a small city located in the southwestern corner of the state, near the Iowa border. It is part of the Worthington, Minnesota micropolitan area, and has a population of just over 1,000 people. The city is known for its rural charm and its close-knit community.

History

Wilmont was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The city was named after Wilmont Township, which was named after Wilmont, Wisconsin. The city was incorporated in 1887 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.
The city was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were wheat, corn, and oats. In the early 1900s, the city began to diversify its economy, and by the mid-1900s, it had become a center for manufacturing and industry. The city was home to several factories, including a furniture factory, a canning factory, and a flour mill.

Geography

Wilmont is located in the southwestern corner of Minnesota, near the Iowa border. The city is situated on the banks of the Des Moines River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city is located about 30 miles from the city of Worthington, and is about a two-hour drive from the Twin Cities.
