Warren Summary

Warren, Minnesota is a small city located in Marshall County, in the northwestern part of the state. It is situated on the Red River of the North, and is part of the Grand Forks-ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

Geography

Warren is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 75 and Minnesota State Highway 220. It is situated on the Red River of the North, which forms the border between Minnesota and North Dakota. The city is located in a flat, open area of the Red River Valley, with an elevation of 910 feet above sea level. The city is surrounded by agricultural land, and is located approximately 25 miles south of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and 25 miles north of Moorhead, Minnesota.

History

The area that is now Warren was first settled in the late 1800s, when the Northern Pacific Railroad was built through the area. The city was named after Warren Upham, a prominent local businessman and politician. The city was incorporated in 1887, and the first post office was established in 1888.
