Wabasso Summary

Wabasso is a small city located in Redwood County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is located along the Minnesota River, approximately 10 miles south of Redwood Falls.

History

The area that is now Wabasso was first settled in the late 1800s. The town was originally known as "Wabashaw," a Dakota word meaning "red earth." The town was officially incorporated in 1887.
The town was named after the Wabashaw River, which runs through the area. The river was named after the Dakota chief Wabashaw, who lived in the area in the early 1800s.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, the town began to grow as a result of the railroad. The railroad brought new businesses and industries to the area, and the town began to grow.

Geography

Wabasso is located at 44°25'N 95°25'W (44.4139, -95.4139). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
The town is located along the Minnesota River, approximately 10 miles south of Redwood Falls. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.
