Sunburg Summary

Sunburg, Minnesota is a small city located in Kandiyohi County, in the west-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Chippewa River, about 30 miles west of Willmar. The city has a population of about 1,000 people, and is part of the Willmar Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Sunburg was first settled in the late 1800s by Swedish immigrants. The city was officially incorporated in 1902, and was named after Sunburg, Sweden. In the early 1900s, the city was home to several businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, a lumber yard, and a blacksmith shop.
