Staples Summary

Staples, Minnesota is a small city located in the central part of the state, in Todd County. It is situated on the banks of the Crow Wing River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and forests. The city has a population of 2,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Staples was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The city was named after a local lumberman, John Staples, who had a sawmill in the area. The city was incorporated in 1891, and the first mayor was elected in 1892.
The city grew rapidly in the early 1900s, and by 1910, it had a population of 1,845. The city was a major lumbering center, and the lumber industry was the main source of employment for the residents.
