Plato Summary

History
The area that is now Plato was first settled in 1856 by a group of German immigrants. The town was originally called “New Germany” and was later renamed “Plato” after the ancient Greek philosopher. The town was officially incorporated in 1887.
Geography
Plato is located at the intersection of Minnesota State Highways 22 and 25. It is situated on the banks of the Crow River, about 25 miles west of Minneapolis. The city has a total area of 0.8 square miles, all of which is land.
Economy
The economy of Plato is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several farms, including dairy, beef, and poultry farms. The city also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
