History

Pillager was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The city was named after the Pillager Band of Chippewa Indians, who had lived in the area for centuries. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the city quickly grew to become a thriving agricultural community.
In the early 1900s, the city began to diversify its economy. A sawmill was built, and the city became a hub for logging and lumber production. The city also became a center for the production of furniture, and several furniture factories were built in the area.
