Northome Summary

History

Northome was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of Finnish immigrants. The town was originally known as “Finn Town”, and was home to a large Finnish population. The town was officially incorporated in 1906, and the name was changed to Northome. The name was chosen to reflect the town’s location in the northern part of the state.

Geography

Northome is located in the northern part of Minnesota, in Koochiching County. It is situated on the shores of Big Rice Lake, and is surrounded by the Chippewa National Forest.
