Miltona Summary

Miltona is a small city located in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The city is situated on the western shore of Lake Miltona, a large lake in the area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Miltona was 545.

History

Miltona was first settled in 1856 by a group of Norwegian immigrants. The city was named after the lake, which was named after the Norwegian poet, Henrik Wergeland. The first post office was established in 1858.
In the late 19th century, Miltona was a thriving agricultural community. The city was home to several grain elevators, a creamery, a cheese factory, and a sawmill. In the early 20th century, the city was home to a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.

Geography

Miltona is located at the western end of Lake Miltona, a large lake in the area. The city is situated on the western shore of the lake, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Alexandria, the county seat of Douglas County.
The climate in Miltona is typical of the Upper Midwest, with cold winters and warm summers. The average annual temperature is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
