History
Maple Lake was first settled in 1855 by a group of German immigrants. The city was named after the nearby lake, which was named for the abundance of maple trees that grew around it. The city was incorporated in 1887.

Maple Lake is located at the intersection of Interstate 94 and Minnesota State Highway 55. It is situated on the western shore of Maple Lake, which is part of the Crow River watershed. The city is located approximately 40 miles northwest of Minneapolis and 25 miles east of St. Cloud.

The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 845 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
