Jeffers Summary

Jeffers, Minnesota is a small city located in Cottonwood County in the southwestern part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Cottonwood River, and is home to a population of just over 1,000 people. The city is known for its rural charm and its strong sense of community.

History

Jeffers was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The city was named after one of the settlers, John Jeffers, who was a prominent figure in the area. The city was originally a farming community, and the settlers quickly established a thriving agricultural economy. The city was incorporated in 1887, and the first mayor was elected in 1888.
In the early 1900s, the city began to experience a period of growth and development. The railroad arrived in Jeffers in 1906, and the city quickly became a hub for the surrounding area. The railroad brought with it new businesses and industries, and the city began to expand.
In the 1950s, the city experienced a period of decline as the railroad industry began to decline. The city was hit hard by the Great Depression, and many of the businesses and industries that had been established in the early 1900s closed their doors. However, the city was able to rebound in the 1960s and 1970s, and the population began to grow again.

Geography

Jeffers is located in the southwestern part of Minnesota, in Cottonwood County. The city is situated on the banks of the Cottonwood River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city is located about 50 miles from the state capital of St. Paul, and is about a two-hour drive from Minneapolis.
The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, and is located at an elevation of 1,072 feet. The climate in Jeffers is classified as humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters.
