Isle Summary

Isle, Minnesota is a small city located in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. It is situated on the south shore of Mille Lacs Lake, the second largest lake in the state. The city has a population of 1,719 people, according to the 2010 census. Isle is a rural community with a strong agricultural base, and is home to a variety of businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, and a variety of restaurants.

Geography

Isle is located in the northern part of Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, on the south shore of Mille Lacs Lake. The city is situated on the east side of the lake, and is bordered by the cities of Onamia and Wahkon to the north, and the townships of Isle Harbor and South Harbor to the south. The city is located approximately 90 miles north of Minneapolis, and is accessible by U.S. Highway 169.
The city of Isle is situated on a flat plain, with an elevation of 1,072 feet above sea level. The city is surrounded by a variety of natural features, including wetlands, forests, and lakes. The city is also home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, bear, and a variety of birds.

History

The area that is now Isle was first settled in the late 1800s by a group of Swedish immigrants. The city was officially incorporated in 1891, and was named after the nearby Isle Harbor. The city was originally a logging and farming community, and was home to a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a general store, and a hotel.
