Hitterdal Summary

Hitterdal is a small city located in Clay County, Minnesota, United States. It is situated along the Wild Rice River, approximately 10 miles east of Moorhead. The population was 545 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Hitterdal is located at 46°45'7" North, 96°25'7" West (46.7519, -96.4186). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

History

Hitterdal was founded in 1881 by Norwegian immigrants. The city was named after the Norwegian town of Hitterdal, which is located in the county of Telemark. The first settlers in the area were farmers, and the city quickly grew to become a thriving agricultural community.
